Job Opportunity: Police Officer - Newark Division of Police

The Newark, Ohio Civil Service Commission is seeking qualified candidates to build an eligibility list for future positions as Police Officers, starting January 1, 2025.

The Civil Service Commission offers full testing services through National Testing Network, Inc. (NTN). To apply and schedule a test, visit www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select Law Enforcement, and sign up for the Newark Division of Police.

What to expect at the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website:
  • Complete the application process
  • Review information related to the Newark Division of Police, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits
  • Get detailed information about the testing process for both entry-level and PAT testing
  • Take online practice tests at www.frontlinetest.com
  • Schedule your test at a convenient time. Tests are available multiple times weekly, including Saturdays
  • Take high-quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair environment

After completing the entry-level exam and Personal History Questionnaire, scores are automatically sent to the Newark Division of Police. Candidates with passing scores on both tests may be placed on the eligibility list. The department will contact candidates on the list to proceed with further stages of the selection process.

NTN provides a standardized, professional testing environment but does not make final decisions; all results are forwarded to the Newark Division of Police for final determination.

Responsibilities of a Police Officer include:
  1. Diligently patrol assigned areas
  2. Recognize and observe suspicious behaviors indicating potential criminal activity
  3. Monitor traffic flow, issue warnings or citations to violations
  4. Respond promptly and safely to dispatched calls and requests for assistance
  5. Complete special projects, assignments, and investigations
  6. Perform duties professionally, accurately, and timely
  7. Maintain competence, professionalism, and ability to perform job duties as described

Minimum requirements include being at least 21 years old, possessing a valid Ohio driver’s license, passing written and physical agility tests, and residing within or near Licking County.

Skills required include problem-solving, data collection, and interpretation of technical and legal instructions, handling multiple variables, and making valid conclusions.
