Job summary

University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks a sworn police officer to patrol university property by foot, bicycle or vehicle, engaging the campus community to prevent crime and enforce laws. The role includes investigations, evidence gathering, witness interviewing and courtroom testimony to support safety on campus.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, success in required exams, and completion of the Basic Training Academy.

Qualifications

• Must successfully pass physical, psychological, and polygraph exams.
• Must meet minimum qualifications to attend and successfully complete the Basic Training Academy as provided by the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
• Minimum age 21 years.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

Description of Work

Sworn police officer who will perform all related duties including, but not limited to: patrolling University property on foot, bicycle, or by vehicle, to engage the University community and public for the prevention of crimes; detect and interrupt crimes in progress; enforce city, state and federal laws; enforce traffic regulations; conduct investigations on criminal offenses and traffic accidents to gather evidence, obtain witnesses and make arrests; provide documentation and testimony to Judicial Board and courts; and provide general security for University properties and citizens on campus to ensure a safe environment for all.

Preferred Qualifications

State Deputy Sheriff Commission certification, Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center certification, and CPR certification. Specialized training in defensive tactics, firearms, pursuit driving, and hazmat.
