Job description

At Bon Secours Mercy Health, we are dedicated to continually improving healthcare quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Our hospitals, care sites, and clinicians are recognized for clinical and operational excellence.

Police Officer provides internal and external safety functions to support the hospital community, including participation in investigations and arrests when warranted. Patrols are assigned areas and respond to calls for routine and emergency assistance.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Patrols facilities and campus properties, including parking areas, to maintain a police presence and monitor for criminal activity or assistance needs.
  2. Provides police services, assists stranded motorists, and visitors as needed.
  3. Responds to calls and emergencies, managing dangerous situations with sound judgment. Assists medical staff, performs BLS, and responds to fire alarms, chemical spills, and code responses in public areas.
  4. Conducts investigations into incidents involving visitors and patients, works with law enforcement, maintains records, and reports incidents and criminal activity.
  5. Maintains lost and found items, secures valuable property, transports money if required, and handles morgue pickups and releases. Assists with air ambulance landings.
  6. Monitors security cameras and alarms.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles, and assessing patient data accordingly.

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education: 2-Year/Associate's Degree

Licensure/Certification: Current OPOTA Certificate, BLS, NAPPI training within first 6 months of hire

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience preferred
  • Firearm qualification: successfully pass bi-annual firearms training
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), typing minimum 40 wpm
