Overview of Responsibilities
  • Perform periodic tours of all hospital buildings and grounds, visually checking for safety and fire hazards. Make written reports each shift on findings and irregularities.
  • Notify Chief of Police or other police supervisor in case of emergency or criminal act resulting in arrest.
  • Enforce hospital regulations and policies to prevent theft and unauthorized access.
  • Conduct safety checks and tests as required by State and Federal laws for a hospital.
  • Assist in all emergencies inside and outside of Reid Health and Reid’s satellite offices.
  • Investigate and file reports concerning irregular activities. Promptly report incidents involving criminal activities.
  • Patrol parking areas periodically, leaving warning notices on vehicles in violation of parking regulations. Check fire and emergency lanes to ensure they are clear at all times.
  • Support the Reid Health Police Department's objectives for creating a safe environment.
  • Assist with patient restraint when necessary.
  • Direct visitors and answer questions related to location of services.
  • Check all odor reports and locate their origin.
  • Respond to fire emergency calls, assist police, fire, and emergency management teams.
  • Provide escort services, car door unlocks, vehicle jump starts, and tire inflation to assist staff and guests.
  • Support hospital departmental policies, procedures, and mission statements.
  • Participate in employee health infection control requirements.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services.
  • Respond to Security Codes I & II.
  • Successfully complete the required 8-week Tier II law enforcement training and all mandatory training.
  • Complete all required hospital training.
Education/Experience

Education Required:High School Diploma

Education Preferred:Criminal Justice or relevant degree beneficial to this position. Must be at least 21 years old.

Certifications:After hire, successfully complete the 8-week Tier II police academy at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy unless previously completed.

Experience Required:Previous security experience. Ability to obtain a valid handgun license for your state. Experience in law enforcement, military police, or security preferred.

Schedule Details

Night shift, 40 hours weekly, from 6pm to 6am, 12-hour shifts.
