The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a Police Lieutenant to assist in managing operations for the University Police Department. The Police Lieutenant assists in managing operations for the University Police Department. The position is responsible for supervising law enforcement personnel, developing policies and training programs, enforcing university and state laws, managing special events, and serving as a liaison with internal partners and external agencies.
• Supervising shift operations, reviewing and approving reports, investigations, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and accountability.
• Responding to critical incidents, providing guidance during complex situations, and assuming command in the absence of higher‑ranking personnel.
• Developing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, and training programs; keeping personnel current on applicable laws such as state statutes and campus regulations.
• Assisting in accreditation efforts and supporting compliance with reporting standards such as NIBRS and the Clery Act.
• Evaluating employee performance and providing recommendations related to promotions, discipline, transfers, leave, and professional development.
• Conducting security assessments of university facilities, supervising support staff, and managing evidence and property control processes.
• Collaborating with campus partners and external law‑enforcement agencies; representing the department at meetings and events; and supporting community engagement initiatives that promote safety and trust.
