The Town of Herndon, a vibrant small town with a strong community focus, is seeking a Police Dispatcher for the Herndon Police Department. Our department is nationally accredited and emphasizes community policing to ensure public safety, protect property, and uphold citizens' rights.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, assessing the situation to dispatch appropriate response units.
2. Input and monitor police activities using the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, ensuring officer safety and operational efficiency.
3. Manage criminal justice information via state (VCIN) and federal (NCIC) networks, supporting investigations and legal processes.
4. Access and modify authorized records such as wanted persons, missing persons, and legal orders, in compliance with regulations.
5. Support communication operations in a 24-hour center via voice, text, and TDD telephone systems.
6. Prepare threat assessments, warrant services, and correspondence as needed.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience or training in telecommunications; completion of Basic Telecommunications School
• Ability to obtain VCIN/NCIC Level A Certification
• Minimum age of 18 years
• U.S. citizenship or lawful residency for the past 10 years
• Spanish language skills are a plus
• Willingness to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
