MDTA Police Cadets perform trainee level law enforcement duties under supervision, receiving instruction in commercial vehicle safety inspections and equipment operation. They help manage traffic and assist travelers at inspection sites while gaining field experience.

The position is outdoors in all weather; cadets do not have arrest powers and are essential personnel subject to call-back and rigorous testing. Eligibility includes citizenship, age limits, and a valid Maryland Class C license.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ages 18 to 20 at time of appointment.
• High school graduation or equivalency required.
• Possess a Class C Maryland Driver’s License valid in Maryland.

Responsibilities

• Learn commercial vehicle safety inspections and operate specialized mobile equipment.
• Direct traffic flow and provide information to travelers at inspection sites.
• Work outdoors in all weather and on roadways under traffic conditions.
