The primary purpose of the Cadet position is to attend and satisfactorily complete the University of Texas System Police Academy, qualifying for commissioning as a peace officer of the University of Texas System. Responsible for successfully fulfilling the academic, physical, and practical requirements of the Basic Training School of the University of Texas System Police Academy.
Training involves participating in and satisfactorily completing physical training, firearms training, defensive tactics, practical problem solving, and academic instruction. Cadets attend classes, maintain comprehensive notebooks, prepare research papers, complete homework assignments, and comply with policies and directives issued by the Police Department and Police Academy staff.
Cadets must conduct themselves in accordance with policies relating to their status and attendance, adhere to The University of Texas System Police Code of Conduct, and follow rules and regulations of the Board of Regents and applicable laws. Maintaining academic integrity is essential.
Additional duties may include emergency recall, extended hours during campus emergencies, and occasional travel for training or other official purposes.
