Position Summary: Position provides a clear pathway to becoming an Independence Police Officer and provides needed support to units within the Independence Police Department. Duties are performed on a rotational basis through various units of the Independence Police Department.
Minimum Qualification: Applicant must be between 18 and 20 years of age to apply and cannot exceed their 21st birthday as a Cadet unless actively waiting for a Law Enforcement Academy class to begin. Applicant must have an interest in a career as an Independence Police Officer. Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED, valid driver’s license by date of application, a good driving record, pass a comprehensive written exam, physical agility test, oral board interview, polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, undergo an extensive background investigation with ability to render credible testimony in a court of law, pass a medical exam and drug screen.
Salary and Benefits: The City offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health and dental insurance, retirement program through LAGERS, paid holidays, and vacation.
Written Examination and Physical Agility Test: Applicants will be required to take both a written test and a physical agility test (Gym clothes required). Applicants selected to test will be notified by e-mail of the time and location of the testing. Letters will be mailed to applicants not invited to test.
