Job summary

Columbus Consolidated Government is seeking staff to provide administrative support to the Columbus Police Department, focusing on evidence handling, unit support, and vehicle records management.

The role covers evidence storage, security of chain of custody, witness testimony, and coordination with the Quartermaster and Motor Transport units. A high school diploma and relevant experience are preferred, with duties conducted on-site.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Responsibilities

• Receives and stores evidence in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Issues equipment to officers for their daily shifts and maintains records of items issued to officers.
• Assists with destruction or auction of property as appropriate.
• Maintain an active evidence file and protect chain of custody for court proceedings.
• Testify in court regarding chain of custody of items used in criminal cases.
• Receive and inspect department shipments; maintain records of clothing and equipment issued to officers.
• Maintain service records on all police vehicles; handle vehicle-related equipment disposal.
