Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for serving both internal and external customers by performing a variety of laboratory procedures in accordance with Ridgeview Medical Center philosophy, policies and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies. Focus areas include: POC, Automated Chemistry, Immuno-Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, and Microbiology.

Brief Description

This position is responsible for serving both internal and external customers by performing a variety of laboratory procedures in accordance with Ridgeview Medical Center philosophy, policies and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies. Focus areas include: POC, Automated Chemistry, Immuno-Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, and Microbiology.

Job Functions
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures.
  • Performs testing analysis of a wide variety of patient specimens according to procedures defined in each area of the lab including quality control, all testing needed for regulatory needs and competency assessment.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting techniques and clearly reports issues to the Lead MLS or other appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate inventories.
  • Assists with the training and orientation of new staff and visiting students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • Associate's degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician from an accredited school. May also have a certificate if grandfathered according to CLIA88.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
License/Certifications
  • Certified or Certification eligible as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology board of registry or as a Clinical Laboratory Technician by the National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel or equivalent per CLIA standards. Certification must be completed by the first year of employment and kept current according to ASCP standards.
