Yale NewHaven Health is seeking an experienced POCT Supervisor to oversee the Point of Care Testing program. You will supervise and educate staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage QA, inventory, and interfaces with the LIS system.

Qualifications

Supervises and provides support for the Point of Care Testing under the direction of the Senior Manager of Clinical operations and the Medical Director to meet patient care and regulatory agency requirements. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to supervision, evaluation, coordination, documentation, and education related to point of care testing (POCT). Responsible for monitoring all regulatory aspects of POCT. Duties include installation of POCT devices, education and training of both laboratory and non-laboratory personnel, competency assessment, day to day operation and management of consumables. POCT refers to any laboratory procedure performed and results documented outside of the central laboratory to include multiple locations of Yale New Haven Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • 1.Coordinates activity necessary to maintain compliance with federal, state and local regulations (e.g. CLIA) and accreditation standards ( e.g. JACHO, CAP).
    • 1.1Ensures that all Point of Care Testing (POCT) meets federal, state and local regulations and accreditation standards.
  • 2.Coordinates proficiency testing for the POCT program.
    • 2.1Assures the proficiency samples are analyzed according to instructions and are completed within allowable time frame.
  • 3.Coordinates education of the laboratory, nursing and other staff participating in POCT.
    • 3.1Monitors certification and competency testing records of all performing POCT.
  • 4.Takes part in inter and intra-department QA initiatives (validations, staff competencies, calibration/verifications, etc.).
    • 4.1Decides what annual QA indicators will be monitored, and then does the monitoring and any corrective action if necessary
  • 5.Assess the POCT area's ordering, inventory control and budgetary management practices related to floor stock supplies and reagents, and works with responsible staff to maintain an efficient supply management system.
  • 6.Maintains technical competency and keeps current on new testing available in the market for POC testing. Maintains current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations as well as Hospital policies and procedures regarding compliance activities.
    • 6.1Continues personal and professional development by attending meetings, conferences and seminars as required or directed.
  • 7.Effectively utilizes all necessary LIS functions, including testing/validation of interfaces to the hospital LIS system.
    • 7.1Holds a comprehensive knowledge of POCT databases, middleware and interfaces
  • 8.Schedules equipment maintenance and service and facilitates replacement of malfunctioning POCT instruments to ensure minimum interruption of service.
  • 9.Assists with Laboratory and Hospital inspections from outside agencies such as CAP, TJC and the State of Connecticut for the POCT modules.
  • 10.Evaluates the daily/weekly/monthly quality control programs for all POCT done in the hospital.
  • 11.Assists with procedures and policies for the POCT program including new procedures, updating existing procedures and maintaining the procedures at each testing site.
  • 12.Is able to work effectively with Nurse Managers, Nurses, MDs and laboratory staff in establishing and monitoring POC programs and resolving POC issues/problems.
  • 13.Ensures evaluation of instrumentation, products, and procedures for suitability for POCT by making recommendations whenever possible for new instrumentation, procedures and supplies to the POC Committee and Laboratory Leadership.
    • 13.1provides technical consultative expertise regarding initial selection or change in methodology to ensure accurate and reliable results for POCT
  • 14.Assists in the development of training programs for others to ensure POCT competency.
  • 15.Follows through with all POCT troubleshooting aspects including technical and clinical issues.
  • 16.Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
  • 17.Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the POCT program.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology with ASCP certification or equivalent required. Master's degree in Healthcare or Business preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years Medical Technology experience required. 2 to 3 years of supervisory experience preferred. POCT experience desirable. Proven ability to interface with cross-section of hospital staff; Physicians, Nurse Managers. Experience with WORD, EXCEL and LIS interfaces.

LICENSURE

American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MT-ASCP) preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS

General knowledge of laboratory operations and POCT. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for laboratories and POCT. Proficient in word processing and excel spreadsheets.
