Job summary

Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services is seeking Psychiatric Care Technicians/CNAs for the PM shift at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion, VA. The role supports nurses, maintains a therapeutic environment, and requires CNA certification and English proficiency. Hours are 6:30 p.m.

to 7:00 a.m., with every-other-weekend work and shift differentials. A background check and drug screen are part of the process, and candidates must obtain CNA certification

Qualifications

Maintain CNA certification in good standing with VA Board of Nursing.
Experience in psychiatric or healthcare facility settings preferred.
Must read, write and speak English.
Ability to observe, report and document patient status.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care under supervision of licensed nursing staff.
Assist nurses as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Observe and report changes in patients’ mental, physical and behavioral status.
Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and assist with activities of daily living.
Be available for overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
