Job summary

Harley Ellis Devereaux is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Plumbing in San Diego, CA to join its Mechanical Engineering team. The role involves independent ownership of portions of project design, documentation, and coordination from concept through construction.

The candidate will contribute to calculations, code research, QAQC, and cross-disciplinary coordination while mentoring junior designers and interns as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent, required.
• P.E. licensure required.
• 5+ years in the AEC Industry preferred.
• Understanding of project finances, budgets, and client relations is preferred.
• Written and verbal communication skills commensurate with the position required.
• Strong organizational skills required.
• Revit experience required.
• Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and email.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design tasks for assigned systems across schematic through construction documents.
• Perform design calculations, equipment sizing, controls sequences, and code compliance checks.
• Prepare technical documentation for mechanical systems (descriptions, narratives, specs, equipment schedules).
• Develop and review mechanical layouts in Revit (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) with other disciplines.
• Coordinate with internal/external teams to resolve conflicts and progress design.
• Review RFIs and submittals; support field verification and construction observation.
