Job Description

The UMKC Campus Facilities Management (CFM) team is seeking an experienced Plumber (UM System Job Title: MTS Pipefitter). The role involves skilled work on a journey level in installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing plumbing and steam systems and equipment. All work is subject to inspection for conformance to standards.

The CFM team supports both the UMKC Volker Campus and the UMKC Health Sciences Campus. As a UMKC employee, you will be part of an engaged and diverse community, working in buildings ranging from over 100 years old to new constructions. This position offers a refreshing career opportunity.

Duties include:

• Install, repair, and maintain water, air, vacuum, gas, hot water, distilled water, acid, and chemical distribution lines and systems, including storm and sanitary waste and steam systems.
• Cut, thread, join pipe, and perform soldering, welding, and insulation as required.
• Operate tools and equipment safely, and maintain them properly.
• Enforce safety requirements related to equipment operation.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates, ordering materials, and maintaining records.
• Operate construction equipment such as backhoes as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Some nights, weekends, and overtime may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant education and experience.
• Four years of work experience in plumbing/pipefitting, including apprenticeship or vocational training.
• Backflow Preventer Device Certification (ABPA or ASSE) or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Ability to read blueprints, plans, and diagrams.
• Skill in using trade tools and equipment.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, work from ladders, and visually assess needs.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary commensurate with experience and education. Position includes a $1,500 hiring incentive.
