Job description

The UMKC Campus Facilities Management (CFM) team is seeking an experienced, customer-service focused HVAC Technician to join our team. Our team supports both the UMKC Volker Campus and the UMKC Health Sciences campus in downtown Kansas City. This role offers a dynamic work environment with a variety of historic and modern buildings.

We seek a positive, team-oriented individual capable of handling interruptions, meeting deadlines, and producing high-quality work. Excellent communication skills, ability to follow instructions, troubleshoot, and resolve issues are essential.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems, including hot water, steam heating, and chilled water cooling systems.
2. Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC control systems and diagnose/control problems.
3. Provide excellent customer service, establishing positive rapport with campus users.
4. Perform duties outside the trade area, such as plumbing and electrical tasks, as needed.
5. Use testing equipment to check controls and balance air flow.
6. Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and drawings.
7. Perform sheet-metal work, duct, and diffuser installation.
8. Operate and maintain chillers.
9. Ensure safety and proper storage of tools and equipment.
10. Work outdoors in cold and icy conditions.
11. Other duties as assigned.

Shift:

Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Five years of work experience and training in the trade.
• Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
• Skill in using trade tools and equipment.
• Physical ability to handle heavy objects, climb ladders, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Over three years of experience with HVAC control systems, especially Honeywell.
• Experience with heat pumps.
