Job summary

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections seeks a skilled journeyman level plumber to inspect, repair, and maintain all plumbing and related mechanical operations within its facilities. Position Summary

The incumbent performs duties at the journeyman level of skill under general supervision utilizing the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of the Plumbing Trades. Responsibilities include inspecting, repairing, and maintaining all plumbing and related mechanical operations, (including heating, ventilating, and the distribution systems) in accordance with the provisions of plumbing codes, pertinent plans, and specifications or work orders.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 04-00 with a starting pay of $53.36/hour, $54.22/hour, or $55.08/hour, depending on the amount of leave selected. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work. This position has physical requirements, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, twisting, kneeling, and pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 75lbs. This position will work within a wide range of temperatures, in dusty, dirty or confined areas or areas that are noisy. This position will also work within close physical proximity to youth and other staff.

Must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on operational needs, which may include weekends and holidays.

This position requires a valid driver's license, the ability to meet state fleet eligibility, and the ability to travel.
