Job summary

The State of Wisconsin is seeking a skilled plumber to inspect, repair and maintain all plumbing and related mechanical systems in our facilities. The role requires a Wisconsin Master Plumber license or Journeyman with plans to obtain Master within the twelve‑month probation, plus ongoing CE to maintain credentials.

Starting pay ranges hourly and benefits include generous leave, health/dental/vision/life insurance, pension with employer match, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

  • Valid Wisconsin Master Plumber license or Journeyman license with ability to obtain Master Plumber before end of probation.
  • Required continuing education to maintain credentials.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States at time of application.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background checks will be conducted.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair and maintain all plumbing and related mechanical systems.
  • Install, service and repair institution plumbing equipment per codes and job orders.
  • Ensure compliance with plans, specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Complete tasks under supervision with required safety protocols.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, performs duties as a skilled Plumber, utilizing the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of the Plumbing Trades. Inspects, repairs, and maintains all plumbing and related mechanical operations, including heating, ventilating, ad the distribution systems in accordance with the provisions of the plumbing codes, pertinent plans, and specifications or job orders. specifications or job order

Salary Information

Starting hourly rate will be $54.50, $55.39, or $56.28 per hour, depending on the amount of paid leave selected. This position is in pay schedule/range is 04-00. A twelve month probationary period is required. This classification is included in the Building & Trades Bargaining unit.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Must possess, maintain, and carry a valid license issued by the State of Wisconsin, Department of Safety and Professional Services, to allow for performing plumbing installation, maintenance service and repair of institution equipment and systems as an unrestricted Master Plumber OR a Journeyman Plumber with the ability to obtain a Master Plumber license prior to the end of the twelve month probation period. This would include required continuing education to maintain these credentials.
