Title: Plumber: CREATING POOL OF APPLICANTS FOR PERMANENT AND EXTRA HELP

General Summary

To perform skilled work in the trade of Plumber.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship program or five (5) years (60 months) of full-time journey- level plumber experience.
  • Possession of current State of Illinois Plumber’s License.
  • Valid State of Illinois driver's license.
  • A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge sufficient in techniques and uses of tools.
  • Capable of planning work based on status of request.
  • Experience in maintenance of drainage, waste, vent, potable water supply and fixtures, etc.
  • Must have a valid state issued driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Functional Expectations
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds.
  • Work at heights or depths of at least 30 feet or more.
  • Must be able to work underground, in ceilings and in confined spaces and be able to maneuver and carry equipment to those locations.

  • Visual acuity to differentiate between color-coded piping.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel and reach overhead.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions.

No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. At the time of a permanent vacancy, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.

Employees are only paid for hours worked.

There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.

Extra Help employees are paid prevailing rate per the trade. They may work full‑time hours throughout their employment as Extra Help, however they are not to exceed 900 hours.

Benefits include time away from work for eligible employees and the option to participate in the University’s 403(b) Plan
