Job Title: Plumber
Job Description

This role focuses on a mix of residential new construction installations and commercial plumbing service work within approximately a 35-mile radius of Rockford. You start each day at the shop, review the schedule with the team, load the truck with the required tools and materials, and then travel to customer sites. You will initially work alongside an experienced technician for the first couple of weeks to learn processes and standards, and then transition to working independently once everyone is comfortable with your progress. The position includes participation in an on-call rotation to support emergency service needs.

Responsibilities
  • Travel daily to residential new construction sites and commercial customer locations within roughly 35 miles of Rockford to perform plumbing work.

  • Complete residential new construction plumbing installations, including running piping, setting fixtures, and ensuring systems meet code and company standards.

  • Perform commercial plumbing service work, including troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems for a variety of commercial clients.

  • Report to the shop each morning to review the daily schedule, discuss priorities, and coordinate with the team before heading to job sites.

  • Load and organize tools, equipment, and materials into the service truck each day to ensure all necessary items are available for scheduled work.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to plan and execute accurate installations and repairs.

  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for cutting, fitting, and installing piping, fixtures, and related plumbing components.

  • Work with a variety of piping materials, including cast iron, and ensure proper installation techniques for durability and code compliance.

  • Collaborate with an experienced technician during the initial training period to learn company practices, standards, and expectations.

  • Transition to independently managing assigned service calls and installation projects once training is complete and performance is validated.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation (currently about once every five weeks) to respond to after-hours emergency plumbing needs as directed.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers on-site, explaining work to be performed and answering basic questions about their systems.

  • Maintain a clean driving record and operate company vehicles safely while traveling between the shop and customer locations.

  • Follow all safety guidelines and company procedures on job sites, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective gear.

  • Document work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered to support accurate records and future service needs.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform plumbing installations for residential new construction projects, including piping and fixture installation.

  • Experience with commercial plumbing service work, including troubleshooting and repairing existing systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to guide layout and installation.

  • Hands‑on experience working with cast iron and other common plumbing materials.

  • Proficiency using plumbing hand tools and related equipment safely and effectively.

  • Capability to perform piping work, including measuring, cutting, fitting, and securing pipe.

  • Clean driving record and ability to drive to and from the shop and customer locations reliably.

  • Basic familiarity with HVAC‑related plumbing connections or systems integration.

  • Ability to work both alongside a technician during training and independently once fully onboarded.

  • Strong reliability and punctuality to meet daily start times at the shop and maintain scheduled appointments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Licensed Plumber credential is highly valued and can support higher pay ranges.

  • Plumbing Apprentice card or formal apprenticeship status is a strong plus.

  • 2 or more years of apprentice experience in plumbing is advantageous and may align with higher pay ranges.

  • Experience in both commercial services and residential new construction environments.

  • Comfort working in an on‑call rotation for emergency service needs.

  • Strong customer service orientation and clear communication skills at job sites.
