Job summary

Norsk Hydro in Elkhart, Indiana, is seeking a permanent PLC Programmer/Technician to troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled systems on rotating shifts (6pm–6am).

You will program using ladder logic and structured text, integrate HMIs and sensors, and collaborate with engineering on upgrades while training junior technicians. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of hands-on professional experience troubleshooting and supporting PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Experience with ladder logic programming in Allen Bradley Logix/Studio 5000.
  • Proficiency in programming User Defined Tags, Add-on Instructions, and Structured Text.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP).
  • Experience editing HMI applications in FactoryTalk View Studio.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled systems and related components.
  • Perform intermediate programming, safety configuration.
  • Program and modify PLC logic using ladder logic, function block.
  • Integrate PLCs with HMIs, sensors, and actuators.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on system upgrades and improvements.
  • Train junior technicians and provide technical support.
  • Support mechanical technicians approximately 30% of the time in role.
  • Continuous Reliability Improvement (CRI): Utilize predictive measures to enhance reliability.
  • Implement and support continuous reliability improvement standards and practices.
  • Emergency response: immediate action to address breakdowns and other suddenly developed conditions.

Shift hours: Rotating Shift 6pm - 6am

3 days on and 3 days off, then 4 days on and 4 days off


What you will be doing


  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled systems and related components.

  • Perform intermediate programming, safety configuration

  • Program and modify PLC logic using standard programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, function block).

  • Integrate PLCs with HMIs, sensors, and actuators.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on system upgrades and improvements.

  • Train junior technicians and provide technical support.

  • This position is a multi-craft role and will be required to support mechanical technicians as needed, approximately 30% ofthe time in role.

  • Continuous Reliability Improvement (CRI): Utilize predictive measures to enhance reliability

  • Implement and support continuous reliability improvement standards and practices.

  • Emergency response: immediate action to address breakdowns and other suddenly developed conditions.


What will make you successful?

3-5 years of hands-on professional experience troubleshooting and supporting PLC-controlled equipment. (required)



  • Experience in Ladder logic programming in Allen Bradley Logix/Studio 5000 Software. (preferred)

  • Proficient in programming User defined Tags, Add-on instructions, and Structured text programming. (preferred)

  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g. Ethernet/IP). (preferred)

  • Experience in editing HMI applications in Factory talk view studio. (preferred)
