Location: Birmingham

Position Summary:

Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment. Follows electrical codes, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and test equipment. Works in a manufacturing environment adhering to policies and procedures to ensure successful execution of responsibilities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Replaces faulty switches and other elements of electrical and mechanical systems. Dismantles electrical machinery and replaces defective parts such as gears, brushes, and armatures.
2. Troubleshoots, programs, and maintains PLCs.
3. Inspects and tests electrical equipment, lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits. Diagnoses malfunctions and replaces damaged wires and cables.
4. Installs, repairs, overhauls, modifies, and maintains electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery.
5. Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty components throughout the plant.
6. Maintains plant power distribution systems, performs preventive maintenance, and installs wiring, conduit, and apparatus.
7. Performs routine preventive maintenance on electrical panels and maintains backups of equipment programs.
8. Assists in preparing building components and systems for trades units and contractors, disassembling and installing equipment and fixtures.
9. Follows all food safety policies, procedures, and regulatory criteria including SQF, GMPs, and FSMA.
10. Performs other duties as assigned; travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

• Associates Degree in Electronics, Electronic Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance of industrial equipment, including PLC.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Working knowledge of Ladder Logic.
• Understanding of electronic and electrical concepts and safety.
• Ability to use electronic and electrical test equipment including digital and analog meters, oscilloscopes, data analyzers, and circuit testers.
• Knowledge of current national electrical code.
