Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated equipment.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting on motors, sensors, relays, relays, and drives.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and identify faults in inputs, outputs, sensors, and machine sequences.
  • Complete preventive and predictive maintenance tasks according to schedules.
  • Respond to breakdowns with safe and timely repairs.
  • Read schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals and blueprints.
  • Support installations, upgrades, startups, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Document maintenance activities and parts usage in CMMS or work orders.
  • Follow lockout/tagout, electrical safety and plant safety procedures.

Job description

About the Role:
The PLC Technician, also commonly searched as Industrial Maintenance Technician, Electrical Maintenance Technician, PLC Technician, Manufacturing Maintenance Technician, and Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician, supports the reliability and performance of production equipment within an industrial manufacturing environment in the Birmingham, Alabama area. This position is available across multiple shifts, including day and overnight schedules, and requires strong industrial maintenance experience with demonstrated electrical and PLC troubleshooting capabilities. The Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities to minimize downtime and support safe, efficient manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting on motors, control circuits, sensors, relays, contactors, variable frequency drives, and related industrial systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and identify faults involving inputs, outputs, sensors, controls, and machine sequences.
  • Complete preventive and predictive maintenance tasks according to established schedules and equipment requirements.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and production downtime issues with a strong focus on safe and timely repairs.
  • Inspect machinery and production equipment to identify wear, electrical issues, mechanical failures, and potential reliability concerns.
  • Repair and replace motors, bearings, gearboxes, belts, chains, pumps, valves, cylinders, switches, and other industrial components.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Support equipment installations, modifications, upgrades, startups, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Document maintenance activities, completed repairs, parts usage, and equipment issues in work orders or maintenance systems.
  • Follow lockout/tagout, electrical safety, machine guarding, PPE, and all applicable plant safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and other maintenance team members to improve equipment uptime and reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Previous industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, production, heavy industrial, machining, fabrication, or similar environment.
  • Electrical maintenance and industrial electrical troubleshooting experience is required.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, sensors, control circuits, relays, and related components.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic production equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose equipment failures and complete repairs efficiently.
  • Ability to use multimeters, electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and standard industrial maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize breakdown repairs, and respond effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to work an assigned day, evening, or overnight shift based on operational needs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, apprenticeship, or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives, HMIs, industrial controls, automation, or robotics.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system, CMMS.
  • Experience in metals, machining, fabrication, foundry, heavy manufacturing, or other industrial production environments.
