What a Day Looks LikeYou’ll be the go-to expert keeping advanced automation running smoothly. Your morning may start by reviewing overnight performance, jumping in to troubleshoot a production cell, and refining ladder logic to stabilize throughput. By midday, you could be touching up Fanuc or ABB robot points to improve cycle time, updating a PanelView HMI, and coordinating schedules across multiple projects. Some weeks you’ll visit sister plants to support launches or resolve controls challenges. Along the way, you’ll document electrical drawings, coach technicians, and help the team quote the next upgrade with accurate models.Your ImpactSupport production by diagnosing and programming both legacy and new plant automation systems to minimize downtime.Design and program PLC-based control solutions for new machinery and existing equipment upgrades.Travel to sister facilities as needed to complete core responsibilities and provide on-site expertise.Own timelines—maintain reliable project and task schedules across multiple plant initiatives.Program robots and adjust points to meet evolving production needs.Partner with production and process engineering to optimize line flow, resolve cycle-time constraints, and address quality issues through controls changes and troubleshooting.Contribute to preventive maintenance planning for current and incoming equipment.Advance new technologies that improve cycle times and strengthen quality detection/prevention systems.Train plant technicians and engineers on controls fundamentals and best practices.Create and update equipment electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions.Collaborate with plant teams to build accurate cost/effort quoting models. Background We’re Looking ForEducationBSEE or BSME requiredExperience3–5 years programming and troubleshooting PLCs and industrial robots1–3 years with Siemens S7 is a plusTechnical RequirementsStrong knowledge of Fanuc and ABB robot operationsNetworking and fieldbus proficiency: Ethernet cabling/addressing, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, RIO, and wireless PC networkingMMI/HMI concepts; familiarity with PanelView Plus and PanelView hardwareCognex In-Sight software experienceLadder logic and Allen‑Bradley platforms: PLC‑5, SLC 500, ControlLogix, MicroLogix; RIO and Ethernet/IP; DeviceNetAC/DC motors and servo systems, including drives such as Kinetix, Ultra3000, PowerFlex, 1305, and 1338Ability to wire industrial control systems (480V/120V/24V), drives, motors, I/O, and sensorsElectrical troubleshooting with the ability to read and interpret electrical printsProficiency with RSNetWorx, RSView Studio, and PanelBuilderAbility to connect to PLCs and navigate programming softwareOther RequirementsRegular and predictable attendanceValid driver’s license for business travelWillingness to work beyond 40 hours as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidaysKey CompetenciesAdvanced/intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Excellent analytical problem-solving skills with a hands-on approachCommitment to the Carlex Values: Safety, Customer Focused, Teamwork, Excellence, and TrustIf you thrive where PLCs, robots, vision systems, and people intersect—and you love turning data and diagnostics into measurable improvements—you’ll feel right at home here.
