Job summary

PIA Automation seeks a Controls Engineer to design, develop, and test automated electronic and pneumatic control systems. You will program PLCs/HMI, define I/O, and integrate robots, vision systems, and safety features for customer applications.

Travel up to 30% for commissioning; Beckhoff expertise is required, with Rockwell and Siemens experience preferred. You will collaborate with Mechanical and Electrical design teams and produce manuals and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in EET, BSEE or equivalent.
• Minimum three years of experience in the machine automation field.
• Beckhoff required; Rockwell and Siemens experience preferred.
• Robot programming: offline and teach pendant.
• Experience with Fanuc, Staubli, and Kuka is preferred.
• Experience reading electrical and pneumatic schematics.
• Travel to customer sites up to 30% for commissioning and runoff.

Job description

The Controls Engineer designs, develops, and tests automated electronic and pneumatic control components and systems.

• Compose and review Machine Functionality Document with customer, detailing the intended function
• Interact with Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Design department personnel
• Program PLC and HMI according to functionality document
• Define and document I/O lists for control system
• Program robots, vision systems, laser welding, leak testers, etc according to functionality document
• Debug/Troubleshoot automated control systems and machine function
• Support machine runoff at PIA (or customer) and gain customer approval
• Write technical machine operating manuals
• Follow all safety requirements and act in a safe manner

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in EET, BSEE or equivalent
• Must have minimum three years of experience in the machine automation field
• Beckhoff required; Rockwell and Siemens experience preferred, and robot programming: developing code in both an offline environment and via the teach pendant
• Competency required with Fanuc, Staubli, Kuka, and familiarity with Motoman helpful
• Experience writing solid PLC code in multiple coding formats (LAD, STL, FBD, SCL, etc.)
• Must be able to develop complex control systems and architecture
• Network and communications experience (ProfiNet, Profibus, Ethernet, etc.)
• MS Office skills including Word, Excel and Project
• Troubleshooting machinery
• Skilled at reading electrical and pneumatic schematics
• Firm understanding of machine safety standards
• Technical writing and written communication including solid PLC code, ladder logic
• Ability to travel to customer sites up to 30% of the time for commissioning and runoff
