Job summary

Quality-Flow-Systems-Inc, Minnesota, seeks a Control Systems Programmer to develop, test, and commission PLC and HMI systems for water, wastewater, and industrial automation projects.

Collaborate with engineers, project managers, electricians, and field service technicians to deliver reliable control systems that meet customer specs and industry standards, with opportunities for growth and ongoing training. Travel for startup support may be required.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of PLC programming experience preferred.
  • Experience with Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, RSLogix, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, electrical schematics, and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to travel for customer startups and service when required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC programs for Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other industrial automation platforms.
  • Design and program HMI applications for operator interfaces.
  • Configure variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor starters, instrumentation, and communication networks.
  • Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) on completed control panels.
  • Troubleshoot programming, electrical, and communication issues during panel testing and startup.
  • Assist with field startup, commissioning, and customer training as needed.
  • Modify existing PLC and HMI programs for upgrades and service projects.
  • Review electrical drawings, P&IDs, and project specifications to ensure programming meets design requirements.
  • Document software revisions and maintain organized project files.
  • Support the service department with troubleshooting and technical assistance.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to meet project schedules and customer expectations.
  • Ensure all programming follows company standards and best practices.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve programming efficiency and quality.

Position Summary

The Control Systems Programmer is responsible for developing, programming, testing, and commissioning PLC and HMI systems for industrial control panels used in water, wastewater, and industrial automation applications. This role works closely with engineers, project managers, territory managers, electricians, and field service technicians to deliver reliable, high-quality control systems that meet customer specifications and industry standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • 2+ years of PLC programming experience preferred.
  • Experience with Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, RSLogix, Unitronics, or similar automation software.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, electrical schematics, and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and software issues independently.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel for customer startups and service when required.
Preferred Skills
  • Water and wastewater control system experience.
  • SCADA programming experience.
  • Ignition, Wonderware, or FactoryTalk View SE experience.
  • VFD configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Networking and industrial Ethernet experience.
  • AutoCAD Electrical familiarity.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to electrical equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and occasionally work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as needed.
