Job description

Join a team recognized for leadership, innovation and diversity

As a PLC Controls Engineer II at Honeywell, you will serve as the Lead Engineer for electrical projects within integrated systems or sub-systems. This role requires both strategic oversight and hands-on technical implementation. You will be responsible for planning, reporting, and managing all electrical project components-taking full ownership of design and execution while coordinating electrical resources both in-house and on-site (which may include other Controls Project Engineers).

In this role, you will apply a systems-thinking approach to understand core design principles, overall electrical architecture, and interdependent project elements. You will lead automation initiatives, ensure design and coding standards are met, and deliver projects on time and within scope and budget-all while exceeding internal and external customer expectations.

You will report directly to our Sr. Software Engineering Supervisor and work full-time onsite at either our Mason, OH or Louisville, KY facility. This role involves approximately 50-60% travel, primarily within the continental U.S., with occasional travel to Mexico or Canada during the field phase of a project. When not traveling, you will work onsite at your home location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead automation projects for material handling systems by developing and deploying PLC code.
• Review and interpret AutoCAD layouts and electrical schematics to drive programming efforts.
• Develop, prototype, and test PLC programs both internally and on-site.
• Ensure programming and commissioning methods align with Intelligrated standards for standardization and quality.
• Execute all phases of testing, including internal and customer acceptance (BUAT, UAT, FAT).
• Oversee project progress through detailed task lists, timelines, and regular status reporting.
• Take a prescriptive and structured approach to planning and execution of project tasks.
• Provide technical leadership, delegating and coordinating tasks across cross-functional engineering teams.
• Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including system designs, updates, and test results.
• Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure system functionality and customer satisfaction.
• Lead or participate in weekly project meetings; revise schedules and resource plans as needed.
• Monitor budgets, manage project scope, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct on-site support and training during commissioning and post-deployment phases.
• Apply sound electrical engineering principles to develop schematics, layouts, and network diagrams.
• Interface with warehouse control systems and other automation subsystems, including scanner and vision systems.
