Job summary

Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is seeking a Systems Engineer in Philadelphia, PA to support a US Navy surface ship program. You will work on a Machinery Control System software suite, transitioning to an Agile release and deployment environment, providing technical analysis and SE planning, and ensuring compliance with military standards and documentation.

The role requires a B.S. in Engineering, 1+ year in systems/electrical/electronics engineering, and a Secret clearance (preferred).

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer) from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 1+ year of experience performing as a systems, electrical, and/or electronics engineer.
  • Experience in MS Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Secret clearance highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as subject‑matter expert in marine Machinery Control Systems (MCS) that interface with gas‑turbine, diesel, and electric drive propulsion.
  • Review and update software requirements, design and implementation review, testing, deployment, configuration management, information assurance, delivery, release, and troubleshooting support through the SEP.
  • Provide technical analysis, participate in technical interchange meetings, and development of test and analysis tools.
  • Develop, support, and adhere to a Systems Engineering Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD/Navy documentation and standards; support engineering for complex systems.

Systems Engineer (Philadelphia, PA)

Position Summary:
As a Systems Engineer supporting a US Navy surface ship program, you will support a software development and in‑service support/sustainment team that is transitioning to an Agile‑based release and deployment environment. The team develops software for and supports a Machinery Control System software suite and network for a US Navy surface warship.

Clearance Required
  • Must be eligible to obtain/maintain DoD Secret security clearance
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Act as subject‑matter expert in marine Machinery Control Systems (MCS) that interface with:
    • Gas‑turbine, diesel, and electric drive propulsion
    • Electrical systems including generator controls, switchgear, motor controllers, one‑line diagrams, and power management systems
    • Auxiliary ship systems for air, fuel, lube, and water
    • Damage control sensors and systems
    • Machinery control sensors and actuators
  • Review and update software requirements, design and implementation review, testing, deployment, configuration management, information assurance, delivery, release, and troubleshooting support through the systems engineering process (SEP).
  • Provide technical analysis, participate in technical interchange meetings, collaborative engineering and development of test and analysis tools.
  • Develop, support, and adhere to a Systems Engineering Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with Department of the Navy and Marine Corps technical documentation that support software engineering, including military standards and specifications; other government documents (e.g., FIPS, FISMA, CJCSI, DoDi); and non‑Government documents (e.g., EIA, IEEE, ANSI).
  • Provide engineering and technical support and advisement regarding problem definition, analysis, requirement updates, and implementation for complex systems required to meet technical requirements.
  • Provide assessments and recommendations on system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts.
  • Assist in performing risk assessments and analysis employing modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Prepare technical presentations, briefings, and papers to address program issues and updates in such venues as technical design reviews, technical review boards, and others.
  • Generate write‑ups and bug tickets that detail testing performed, troubleshooting steps, and findings.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation plans for identified cost, schedule, and technical issues.
  • Provide weekly reports on significant issues and actions.
  • Support transition of developmental efforts into production, perform verification and validation testing for software deliveries, organize and execute system‑level testing in a simulated shipboard environment, and assist with the technical activities.
  • Conduct assessments and make recommendations for design, testing, and documentation utilizing full knowledge of all phases of application, analysis, programming, and research analysis techniques.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
  • B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer) from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • 1+ year of experience performing as a systems, electrical, and/or electronics engineer.
  • Experience in MS Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Secret clearance highly preferred.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Strong experience with PLC (Ladder Logic) installation and troubleshooting highly desired.
  • Knowledge of CMMI.
  • Experience with Agile workflow, preferably through JIRA or similar application.
  • COMPTIA Security+ (expected to complete certification within 6 months of hire).
Physical Demands and Expectations
  • Up to 75% travel.
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
