Job summary

Life Cycle Engineering is seeking a Naval Architect/Structural Engineer to join our Norfolk, VA team. You will provide technical assistance to Ships Force and Navy activities related to ship and dock conditions, with hands-on inspections and repair planning.

The role requires ABET-accredited education and 2+ years of experience in naval ship structures, including welding and preservation systems, in a DoD context. Norfolk-based position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years hands-on experience inspecting ship structures
  • Experience with welding, preservation systems, and naval ship structures
  • Knowledge of structure, preservation, insulation, piping and welding on Navy ships

  • Provide technical assistance, assessment, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct inspections/assessments of current ship condition and determine corrective path.
  • Respond to ESRs and client departures from specification when applicable.

Naval Architect / Structural Engineer
Position Summary:

Life Cycle Engineering is looking for a Naval Architect/Structural Engineer to join our team in Norfolk, VA. As a Naval Architect/Structural Engineer you will provide technical assistance to Ships Force and/or involved Navy Technical Activities related to ship and dock conditions.

Contract Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical assistance, assessment, and corrective actions as tasked.
  • Conduct inspections and/or assessments of current ship condition and evaluate the findings of the inspections and/or assessments to determine a way forward to correct the current situation.
  • Answer Engineering Service Requests (ESR) and Departures from Specification (Client) when applicable.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • BS in Structural Engineering or Naval Architecture from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) school
  • Experience in the assessment, repair, and maintenance of structure on US Naval ships. Minimum of two (2) years specialized hands-on experience working and inspecting ship structures, material, knowledge of welding and preservation systems.
  • Have knowledge about structure, preservation, insulation, piping and welding on Navy Ships.
  • Hands-on experience with this equipment within the last two (2) years.
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
  • Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment.
