Job summary

Baltimore City Government is seeking a Program Safety Inspector to coordinate Baltimore’s Playground Safety Program under the Bureau of Parks. This role oversees inspections, safety standards, and maintenance across city playgrounds and related facilities.

The position requires a bachelor's degree and at least three years in program supervision, plus certifications in playground inspection and maintenance and a valid Maryland driver's license. A probationary period applies.

Qualifications

• Education: Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Experience: Three years of planning, supervision, evaluation or coordination of a program, operation, or business.
• Must obtain Playground Inspection Certification and Playground Maintenance Certificate, and have a Maryland driver’s license.
• Equivalency notes: An equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
• Licenses: Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent; provisional licenses not acceptable.
• Note: You must upload a copy of your valid driver’s license with the application.

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates the Playground Program, including inspections and annual audits.
• Ensures certification, best practices, and procurement tracking; maintains inventories and service requests.
• Directs safe use and maintenance of playground equipment and surfacing; oversees repairs.
• Plans long-range goals for Baltimore City playgrounds in parks and recreation centers.
• Reviews playground design for final approval and acts as SME for landscape and hardscape design.
• Monitors procurement, writes contracts and cost estimates, and coordinates with Capital Development.
