Job summary

The City of Somerville is hiring for a maintenance worker responsible for playground equipment upkeep, landscaping, and general grounds maintenance. The role requires physical labor, familiarity with carpentry and irrigation, and operation of hand and power tools.

Qualified applicants will have a valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license, good health, and the ability to perform heavy work outdoors in various weather conditions. Union and benefits are noted in total rewards.

Qualifications

• Ability to receive and interpret written and oral instructions and to give written and oral reports to supervisors.
• Must be able to use tools of trade in a workmanlike manner.
• Must be in good health, dependable, and able to do hard physical work.
• Must possess valid Massachusetts Class D drivers license.
• Must have a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform playground equipment maintenance and repair with carpentry, irrigation, and surface repair skills.
• Maintain lawns, gardens, shrubs, and flower beds; plant, prune, and water landscapes.
• Perform general maintenance tasks including digging, shoveling, snow removal, and debris cleanup.
• Repair and replace fences, swings, slides, and other playground equipment; paint and maintain grounds.
