Job summary

Pearson is modernizing its content platform with hands‑on engineering leadership. You will design target systems, migrate large volumes of data, and build reusable capabilities via clean APIs.

You’ll own critical paths, supervise architecture choices, and mentor engineers while delivering high‑impact platform improvements. You will work across teams, balancing speed and safety, applying AI‑driven workflows, and driving reliability and security in production systems on AWS.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating production software, including multi‑team systems.
• 4+ years at staff or principal level, or as technical lead across several teams or a large multi‑service system.
• Led a re‑platforming or legacy migration of a production system with active users and data.
• Full‑stack depth in Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, and React with MongoDB and event‑driven services behind APIs with many consumers.
• Production experience on AWS (ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3, API Gateway) with observability, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical plan and delivery for several technology tracks, from target design through launch.
• Migrations of large volumes of content and data with verification that nothing is lost or broken for downstream products.
• Build shared capabilities exposed through clean APIs (media handling, search, rendering, AI content services).
• Provide an honest, costed view of technical debt and prioritization.
• Escalate incidents as the technical point of contact and follow through to root cause and fix.
• Ensure security and stability including runtime upgrades, testing, and disaster recovery.
• Set shared design patterns, tooling, reliability, observability, performance, and AI workflow standards.
• Define the long‑term technical roadmap for your area.
