Bentley Systems in Philadelphia, PA, is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead platform software teams and to partner with the Head of Software Engineering on scalable architecture and delivery. You will help empower developers, promote open collaboration, and drive high-quality software across the Bentley platform ecosystem.

The role emphasizes team health, open-source collaboration, and mentoring with a focus on delivering impactful software while maintaining a strong culture.

Qualifications

• Proven engineering leader focused on team health, culture, and execution rather than individual technical contribution.
• 10+ years of software development experience, including leadership of distributed engineering teams.
• High emotional intelligence with a transparent, collaborative leadership style.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical, business, and executive audiences.
• Leadership experience building developer platforms, APIs, libraries, or technical standards. Bonus experience with open-source platforms, geospatial and digital twin technologies, 3D visualization, AECO workflows, or cross-platform architectures.
• This role requires minimal travel.
• Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements).

Responsibilities

• Lead and support engineers, fostering trust, autonomy, and high performance.
• Establish the processes and systems that enable continuous delivery of high-quality software.
• Promote openness and teamwork across teams and with the open-source community.
• Partner with the Head of Engineering on hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance growth.
• Work with Product Management and the DCTO to deliver the roadmap on a scalable architecture.
