Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the Software Platform team in San Jose. You will oversee CI/CD, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, and data infrastructure, building a scalable platform for internal tooling and customer-facing products.

You will mentor six engineers, shape a productive, product-minded platform, and partner with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable services with strong ownership and governance.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering and 3+ years leading software teams building and operating production systems.
• Direct experience managing a platform, infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE team with hiring and coaching responsibilities.
• Strong background in distributed systems, backend services, with hands-on Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS.
• Experience with production reliability (SLOs, on-call, incident response).

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow the Software Platform team. Own hiring, performance management, coaching, and team composition for a growing platform organization.
• Define team goals and technical roadmaps aligned with company priorities.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical production services.
• Translate mission needs into clear requirements and technical specifications with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Drive engineering best practices including design reviews, code quality, testing, and observability.
• Manage team capacity, staffing, and growth, including hiring and performance development.
• Promote a culture of technical ownership and pragmatic delivery.
• Build feedback loops with developer-customers and maintain ownership boundaries for product teams.
