Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the platform team that builds flight and payload software for on-orbit operations. You will shape technical direction, grow the team, and ensure reliable, scalable systems that turn customer intent into safe operations.

This hybrid role is based in San Jose, CA, with on-site work three days per week. You will collaborate with customers and mission operations to deliver robust solutions and drive engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience and 2+ years in software team leadership.
• Experience with embedded systems (RTOS/Linux) and mission-critical software.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a software engineering team responsible for core flight software development.
• Define team goals and technical roadmaps aligned with company priorities.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical services in production.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate mission needs into clear requirements and technical specs.
• Drive engineering best practices including design reviews, code quality, testing, and observability.
• Manage team capacity, staffing, and growth including hiring and performance development.
• Promote a culture of technical ownership and pragmatic delivery.
