Job summary

Klaviyo in Boston seeks a Lead Software Engineer for Platform Engineering to set the technical direction of core platform services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency. You will mentor engineers and own long-term roadmaps while remaining hands-on with Python/Go and cloud-native infrastructure.

You’ll collaborate with security and product teams, drive architectural improvements across observability, API gateways, and data pipelines, and champion best practices in design reviews

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Production software experience in Python and/or Go.
• Cloud-native with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and Kubernetes ownership.
• Strong Linux networking fundamentals and production debugging skills.
• Experience across API gateways, observability, or database/storage platforms.
• Ability to own full lifecycle of platform initiatives across teams.
• Proven mentoring ability and influence beyond immediate team.
• Excellent communicator with technical docs and RFCs.
• Comfortable handling outages and driving root-cause analysis.

Responsibilities

• Set technical vision and multi-year roadmaps for core platform services.
• Own design and evolution of foundational platform primitives used by product teams.
• Lead cross-team initiatives to improve availability, scalability, latency, and cost-efficiency.
• Identify bottlenecks and drive architectural solutions.
• Leverage Python, Go, AWS, and Kubernetes to advance the platform.
• Champion design reviews, IaC practices, and defensive programming.
• Drive cost-optimization, right-sizing, and tooling for cost-efficiency.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers across the Platform Engineering org.
• Participate in on-call practices and root-cause problem solving.
• Experiment with AI tools and workflows to improve efficiency.
