Job summary

PlayerZero in Atlanta is seeking a Platform Engineer to build and evolve backend services powering our AI platform. You’ll work across code, data models, integrations, and infrastructure to improve reliability and extensibility.

This hands-on leadership role requires delivering production code, guiding architecture, and enhancing systems with testing, security, and observability. If you enjoy shaping large, evolving systems and learning how AI agents run in production, you’ll fit right in.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building and operating backend systems with Kotlin and JVM fundamentals, plus Gradle.
• Experience decomposing a large JVM app into clearer modules or services.
• Strong API design, data modeling, databases, and distributed systems.
• A practical approach to architecture that reduces complexity and delivers iterative improvements.
• Ownership from design to production, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Ability to lead with technical judgment, writing, code reviews and collaboration.
• Curiosity about AI agents and willingness to learn their runtime and requirements.
• Experience with TypeScript, Rust, or vector stores is also useful.
• Communications: Slack/MS Teams apps at scale with multi-tenant OAuth and robust event handling.
• Billing: usage-based billing, ledger correctness, idempotency, reconciliations, and Stripe-like integrations.

Responsibilities

• Build, design, and operate backend platform services using Kotlin and the JVM.
• Incrementally evolve architecture to reduce coupling while keeping production stable.
• Design interfaces, data models, APIs, and event-driven workflows.
• Deliver integrations and core workflows (Slack, Teams, billing capabilities).
• Extend the AI runtime and understand agent execution loops.
• Engineer for production: testing, security, instrumentation, and CI/CD.
• Raise engineering quality through focused reviews and clear design docs.
