Job summary

Speechify is hiring a Software Engineer on the Platform team in Portland, OR. You will own backend APIs powering payments, subscriptions, auth, and our TTS services across multiple apps and web products.

The role emphasizes reliability, scalability, and cross‑team collaboration to ship robust, maintainable systems for tens of millions of users. This is a distributed, office‑less environment with strong emphasis on async work and impact.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node (required).
• Direct GCP experience with working knowledge of AWS/Azure.
• Strong debugging, logging, and reliability mindset.
• Ability to judge tradeoffs and write maintainable code.
• Comfort with containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
• Improve external services for speed, cost, and reliability.
• Validate changes with tests and maintain post-release correctness.
• Automate repetitive tasks to free up time for impactful work.
• Create repeatable processes and enable team-wide reuse of solutions.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture aligned with product direction.
