Job summary

Speechify in Ithaca, NY is seeking a Platform-focused Software Engineer to own the backend APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, and analytics that power our public TTS services across devices.

You will design scalable services, improve reliability, and collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep architecture ahead of where the product is going; experience with TS/Node, GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes is preferred; a take-home assessment will follow.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TypeScript/Node.js.
• Direct experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) required; AWS/Azure knowledge is a plus.
• A habit of sharing work and documenting improvements.
• Experience designing scalable APIs and services used by multiple clients.
• Familiarity with logs, metrics, and system state to validate results.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and the public TTS API.
• Improve performance, reduce cost, and strengthen reliability of existing services.
• Verify changes with end-to-end checks before deployment.
• Automate repetitive tasks to free up time for new work.
• Turn one-off work into reusable patterns for the team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on Speechify.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture aligned with product direction.
