Job summary

Elsevier's Platform squad builds the platform API and internal tooling used across clinical products. You will own endpoints, contracts, and the extraction work transforming internal seams into a stable interface.

You’ll also contribute to vocabulary mapping, data quality, hospital onboarding, and operational views enabling a small team to run 100+ hospitals. The role leverages Ruby on Rails with Sidekiq on AWS (ECS, Aurora PostgreSQL) and a TypeScript frontend, with a strong emphasis on SQL

Qualifications

• Experience building scalable API endpoints in Rails.
• Strong SQL and data modeling skills.
• End-to-end ownership of production systems.
• Experience with Sidekiq and background jobs.
• Familiarity with AWS services like ECS and Aurora PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities

• Owning platform subsystems end to end: ingestion pipelines, sync reliability, normalization.
• Keeping the stack healthy: major framework and dependency upgrades, developer tooling, and the CI that keeps a small team fast.
• Diagnose and fix loosely specified problems through design and durable fixes.
• Maintain correctness and observability as the platform grows for new consumers.
• Collaborate with the engineer who built our sync and normalization systems and own a production pipeline.
