Job summary

Elsevier's Wellsheet platform in Philadelphia, PA is hiring a Senior Software Engineer I to own platform APIs and backend services built with Ruby on Rails and Sidekiq, on AWS. You’ll work on real-time EHR integration, data pipelines, and internal tooling, with a TypeScript frontend for internal interfaces.

The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, strong SQL skills, and observability. You’ll join a small, senior engineering team shipping production-grade features to hospitals and clinicians

Qualifications

• Experience with Ruby on Rails and Sidekiq in a production AWS environment.
• Strong SQL and relational data modeling skills.
• Experience with end-to-end ownership of production systems and strong debugging/logging mindset.

Responsibilities

• Owning platform subsystems end to end: ingestion pipelines, sync reliability, normalization.
• Keeping the stack healthy: upgrades, developer tooling, and CI for a small team.
• Diagnosing and fixing complex issues (e.g., vendor FHIR quirks) with durable solutions.
• Building platform API surfaces and internal tooling used by multiple teams.
