Job summary

NYCHA is seeking a Plasterer to perform interior and exterior plastering under supervision. Responsibilities include mixing and applying plaster, Fireproofing, Soundproofing, and various cement stucco finishes according to plans and specs.

Typical duties also cover setting up scaffolds, taping and repairing sheetrock, patching walls, maintaining records, and supervising assigned personnel. NYCHA provides benefits and promotional opportunities.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time plastering experience.
• Equivalent combination of apprentice experience and training to reach three years.
• Ability to apply plastering materials per plans/specs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and apply plastering materials including fireproofing, soundproofing, cement stucco and EIFS.
• Use hawk and trowel to plaster walls, ceilings, piers, and columns.
• Plaster partition walls and patch plaster with limited damage.
• Tape and repair damaged sheetrock walls.
• Set up scaffolds and work on elevations as required.
• Follow plans and specifications for workmanship.
• Maintain records of work performed.
• Supervise assigned personnel.

Job description

Under supervision, prepare and apply plastering materials to interior and exterior surfaces; perform related work.

Examples of typical tasks include:

1. Prepare and apply all plastering materials which include Fireproofing, Soundproofing, and all types of Cement Stucco, E.I.F.S. Stucco, etc.
2. Using a hawk and trowel, apply plastering materials to walls, ceilings, piers and columns.
3. Plaster partition walls and patch plaster walls with limited areas of damage.
4. Tape sheet rock and repair damaged sheet rock walls.
5. Set up and work on scaffolds.
6. Perform work in accordance with plans and specifications.
7. Maintain records.
8. Supervise assigned personnel.

NOTE: IF THIS APPOINTMENT IS MADE ON A PROVISIONAL BASIS PURSUANT TO 65 OF THE NYS CIVIL SERVICE LAW, NO TENURE OR PERMANENCE ACCRUES TO AN INCUMBENT IN THIS POSITION BY VIRTUE OF SUCH APPOINTMENT.

3. Candidates will be required to take and pass a practical exam. During the practical exam candidates will be required to apply a hard trowelled plaster finish on two walls and ceiling of a plastering booth. Booth must be finished to the designated size void of any imperfections. Candidates will also be required to make the walls and ceiling straight and true with three finished corners. Candidates are to wear a full Plasterer s uniform; and have a full set of plaster tools. Duration of the Practical Exam will be 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work; or

At least one and half years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work, plus sufficient full-time experience as a plasterer's apprentice, or training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational school, to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice experience or approved trade or vocational high school training.
