Job summary

Ryerson is hiring a Plasma Operator to set up, operate and maintain plasma-cutting equipment to meet precise dimensions and shapes. You will interpret technical drawings and ensure product quality while adjusting settings and monitoring processes.

Responsibilities include routine maintenance, safety adherence, and material handling with cranes or forklifts. Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program to support career development.

Qualifications

• Pass a skills-based assessment covering reading, math, inspections, and problem-solving.
• Experience operating plasma-cutting equipment or similar metal-cutting machinery.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Physically able to lift and move materials as needed.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate plasma cutting equipment to cut metal to precise dimensions.
• Interpret drawings and specifications to determine cutting requirements.
• Adjust cutting speed, gas flow, and torch height to optimize cutting performance.
• Monitor cutting processes to ensure accuracy and quality of pieces.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on plasma-cutting equipment.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
• Operate overhead crane, forklift, or sideloader to move material as needed.
• Pull and stage feedstock for production orders.
• Work order confirmation on computer.
• All other duties as assigned or may change at any time.
