Job summary

Ryerson is seeking a Plasma Operator to set up, operate, and maintain plasma-cutting equipment, interpreting drawings and adjusting settings to deliver precise cuts. You will monitor processes, perform routine maintenance, and ensure safety in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

The role includes crane/forklift material handling, work order confirmation, and collaboration with team members. Candidates will enroll in an apprenticeship during onboarding and contribute to quality and efficiency

Qualifications

• Pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, measurements, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
• Experience operating plasma-cutting equipment or similar metal-cutting machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Physically able to lift and move materials as needed.
• Enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program during onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate plasma cutting equipment to cut metal to precise dimensions and shapes.
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine cutting requirements.
• Adjust machine settings (speed, gas flow, torch height) to optimize cutting performance.
• Monitor cutting processes to ensure accuracy and quality of pieces.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on plasma-cutting equipment.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment.
• Operate overhead crane, forklift, or sideloader to move material as needed.
• Pull and stage feedstock for production orders.
• Confirm work orders in computer systems.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Your primary duties will include interpreting technical drawings, adjusting machine settings, monitoring cutting processes, and ensuring quality control standards are met.

• Set up and operate plasma cutting equipment to cut metal materials to precise dimensions and shapes
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine cutting requirements
• Adjust machine settings such as cutting speed, gas flow, and torch height to optimize cutting performance
• Monitor cutting processes to ensure the accuracy and quality of cut pieces
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the plasma-cutting equipment
• Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe work environment
• Operating an overhead crane, forklift, or sideloader to move material as needed
• Pulling and staging feedstock for production orders
• Work order confirmation on computer

Requirements

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
