Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Company in Orrville, OH offers a Plant Systems Engineering intern position in person. You will support manufacturing operations via IT, automation, and plant networking, including MES/SCADA systems and project management from concept to commissioning.

Working with technicians and engineers, you will develop IT standards, participate in capital projects, and gain exposure to enterprise IT practices within a Fortune 500 manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Sophomore standing in a related engineering field
• GPA at least 3.0
• Basic understanding of computer systems, networking, and operating systems
• Experience with one or more programming languages, such as Python, C++, SQL, VBA, or C#
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and learn
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Availability to work full-time during the internship period
• Ability to meet safety expectations including PPE and GMP

Responsibilities

• Work with operating technicians to collect data and learn manufacturing process
• Architect, administer and support network infrastructure (Terminal Servers, Thin Clients, Ethernet Switches)
• Design, implement and support technical solutions in MES and SCADA software
• Develop, document and strengthen IT standards
• Completely manage projects from scope development, capital appropriation, implementation, commissioning and verification
• Coordinate activities of contractors, hourly technicians and other resources
• Research feasibility of long-term plant upgrade initiatives
