Job summary

SLB is seeking a Plant Quality Engineer to lead quality systems and continuous improvement across manufacturing. You will drive PFMEAs, Control Plans, Six Sigma projects, and data-driven improvements partnering with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Maintenance.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field, with 5 years in quality or process roles; Lead Auditor Certification and Six Sigma training are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead PFMEA creation and implementation for manufacturing processes lacking formal risk assessment.
  • Develop PFMEA-based Control Plans with monitoring requirements and reaction plans.
  • Facilitate cross-functional risk assessment sessions with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations.
  • Ensure quality documentation aligns with customer, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Establish standardized work instructions, inspection criteria, and quality procedures.
  • Lead Six Sigma projects using DMAIC to reduce defects and variation.
  • Identify and prioritize high-risk processes through PFMEA and Six Sigma methods.
  • Conduct root cause analyses using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and Failure Analysis tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce scrap, rework, and CON-P.
  • Investigate internal quality concerns and implement containment and corrective actions.

Job description

Purpose / Scope of Position (role)

The Plant Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving quality systems, processes, and controls to ensure product conformity, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. This role serves as the plant's quality subject matter expert, leading risk-based quality initiatives through the implementation of PFMEAs, Control Plans, Six Sigma methodologies, and data-driven continuous improvement programs. The position partners closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Maintenance to reduce variation, prevent defects, improve process capability, and establish a culture of proactive quality management. The Plant Quality Engineer is accountable for driving compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and company quality objectives while reducing the Cost of Non-Performance (CON-P).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the creation and implementation of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) for manufacturing processes lacking formal risk assessment methodology.
  • Develop Control Plans based on PFMEA outputs to establish process controls, reaction plans, and monitoring requirements.
  • Facilitate cross-functional risk assessment sessions involving Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams.
  • Ensure quality documentation aligns with customer, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Establish standardized work instructions, inspection criteria, and quality procedures.
  • Lead Six Sigma projects using DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology to reduce defects and process variation.
  • Identify and prioritize high-risk processes through PFMEA and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone Diagrams, and Failure Analysis tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives resulting in reductions in scrap, rework, customer complaints, and overall Cost of Non-Performance (CON-P).
  • Investigate internal quality concerns and implement effective containment and corrective actions.
Education & Experience

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field, or in lieu of degree a minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing quality, quality engineering, process engineering, or continuous improvement role.

Preferred

  • Lead Auditor Certification
  • Advanced knowledge in RCA, CAPA, FMEA, SPC, and other quality tools.
  • Six Sigma Training / Certification
