Job summary

Orica is seeking a Plant Operator in Winnemucca, NV to support operations in our Specialty Mining Chemicals team. You will help manage rail and freight loading/unloading and operate basic process equipment with a strong safety focus.

The role is on-site, full-time, with rotating 5x4 day/night shifts (6:30 AM–7:00 PM and 6:30 PM–7:00 AM). You will help ensure timely, accurate shipments while adhering to environmental and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand basic instructions.
• Clear written and spoken communication in small group settings.
• Basic math including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages for operational tasks.
• Strong problem-solving skills and practical, common-sense thinking.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and navigation.

Responsibilities

• Monitor movement of products to/from storage tanks and coordinate with team for safe flow.
• Record operating data (quantities pumped, gauge readings, times) manually or via computer systems.
• Inspect vessels for cleanliness and load procedures/weight compliance.
• Perform railcar groundwork (connect/disconnect couplers, air lines) and assist spotting.
• Set manual brakes on railcars as needed.
• Take on additional duties to support plant operations.

About the role - Plant Operator (Winnemucca, NV)

We are excited to offer an opportunity to join Orica as aPlant Operatorwithin our Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals (OSMC) team.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting plant operations related to rail and freight loading/unloading, as well as operating basic process equipment. With a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility, and operational efficiency, you will help convert raw materials into liquid sodium cyanide, ensuring timely and accurate shipments to our customers.

• This is a full-time, hourly, on-site position
• Requires working 5x4 rotating day and night shifts
• Shift hours are:
  6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
  6:30 PM to 7:00 AM

Work environment

• Work is performed in both outdoor and indoor environments with adequate ventilation.
• May involve exposure to fumes or airborne particles such as dust, smoke, or other air contaminants.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and required for all employees.
• Moderate noise levels are typical, especially when working near operating equipment.

What you will be doing

What you will bring

• Ability to read and understand basic instructions, memos, and short correspondence.
• Comfortable writing simple messages and communicating clearly in small group settings.
• Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Able to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages as needed for operational tasks.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply common sense in routine situations.
• Basic computer skills required (e.g., data entry, email, basic system navigation).
• Willingness to complete ongoing safety and job-related training.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.

Physical requirements

• Ability to climb stairs, ramps, and similar structures
• Frequent repetitive motion involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Must be able to lift, carry, pull, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Capable of sustained computer use for extended periods.
• Must be able to drive at night as needed.
