Location: Elk Grove Village, IL - Filling industrial

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both for high pressure and liquefied gases.

  1. Loads and unloads gas cylinders and/or other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers, moving cylinders with proper carts only.
  2. Sorts empty cylinders by type.
  3. Rolls cylinders and operates a forklift truck for moving cylinders on pallets.
  4. Understands hazards of various gases; reads and interprets cylinder labels and color-coding; accurately labels cylinders.
  5. Handles high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders; prepares high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling; attaches to manifold, evacuates cylinders to eliminate contaminants.
  6. Performs basic cylinder maintenance such as painting, labeling, and cleaning work area.
  7. Inspects cylinders before filling, following standard procedures; conducts safety checks; fills cylinders by pressure and weight per regulations.
  8. Checks cylinder quantities, styles, and products; assists with inventory.
  9. Manages paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards; completes quality control sheets.
  10. Complies with all safety standards for handling hazardous materials/cylinder gases.

Pay: $22 an hour

Required Education:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of one year in manufacturing, filling, or loading; experience in gas, welding, safety supply, or chemical industry preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand safety data sheets.
  • Ability to work well with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely.
Physical Demands:

Must be able to talk, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and move up to 800 pounds with equipment assistance.

Work Environment:

Minimal travel; indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions; exposure to loud noises and odors; work with moving mechanical parts and electrical hazards.
