Job Overview

This position carries out physical plant operations, preventative maintenance, and on-call services on a seven-day-a-week shift cycle to ensure patient comfort and safety are maintained.

Location: 800 Washington Street, Boston (Nutrition Center Building)

Hours: Full-time - 40 hours, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts required

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Second class fireman license or higher
  • Four (4) years of technical experience with electromechanical equipment and systems
  • Three (3) years of experience in the operations, maintenance, and repair of similar equipment and systems used in facilities
  • Previous supervisory experience
Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below describe the general nature of work and are not exhaustive. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Reads, records, and inspects heating, plumbing, refrigeration, HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, motors, controls, water tanks, and drains.
  2. Performs preventative maintenance on systems such as boilers, air conditioning units, ice machines, compressors, pumps, motors, fans, emergency lights, generators, etc.
  3. Responds to emergency calls related to power, steam, water, heat, and snow, operating appropriate emergency equipment as needed.
  4. Diagnoses and rectifies problems within the physical plant, such as loss of heat, hot water, power outages, or equipment overheating.
  5. Notifies authorized personnel of impending issues or major system failures requiring specialized repair.
  6. Starts, stops, and operates all equipment according to established procedures.
  7. Supervises and directs the work of assigned boiler plant operators and performs training as required.
  8. Enters operating data into logs and prepares deficiency lists and reports as needed.
