Job summary

Targa Resources is seeking a Plant Operator in New Mexico to monitor, maintain, and operate plant equipment within the facility. The role focuses on operating processes, recording data, and ensuring safety and compliance.

The position offers a 14/14 rotation schedule with travel expenses paid and housing available. The operator will support with surrounding equipment as needed and contribute to cost analysis and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and comply with company’s driving policy and insurance requirements.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating (day/night) shifts and weekends/holidays to be worked.
  • Must pass pre-employment and annual respirator fit testing.
  • Regular use of complex machines and equipment; specialized or advanced software programs.
  • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors; able to work in a self-directed work team
  • Must become proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software modules, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must work with a minimum of supervision and manage their time when given multiple tasks.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to call outs as needed to fulfill business objective
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable PPE guidelines (eye protection, footwear, Nomex)
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required

Responsibilities

  • Complete operating reports, notify environmental deviations, and perform lockout/tag-out for maintenance.
  • Comply with EH&S policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on plant and surrounding equipment.
  • Create and maintain operational and inspection records.
  • Document all operational activities via logs and computer records.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping.
  • Suggest facility modifications or procedure changes to improve operation and cost analysis.
  • Respond to unusual operating conditions and changing modes within critical time limits.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

**This position offers a 14/14 rotation schedule; travel expenses paid and housing available.

The Plant Operator position is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and operating the equipment within the plant boundaries, and may be asked to assist with supporting equipment in the surrounding area.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to operate plant processes using plant control systems.
  • Monitor operational parameters and make necessary adjustments to meet specific production targets.
  • Recognizes equipment abnormalities. Communicates with maintenance regarding significant repairs.
  • Responsible completion of operating reports, notification of environmental deviations, and equipment lockout/tag-out for maintenance and repair.
  • Comply with all applicable EH&S policies and procedures.
  • Perform skilled routine and non-routine maintenance on plant and surrounding equipment. This can include equipment such as: Compressors Pumps Filter Houses In-Line Screens Piping and Valving Automobiles Pressurized Process Vessels and Supporting Equipment.
  • Create & maintain operational and inspection records.
  • Document all operational activities via plant logs and computer records.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping.
  • Recommend facility modifications or procedure changes to enhance operation and cost analysis.
  • Must comply with facility regulations and respond within critical time limitations to unusual operating conditions and changing operational modes.
  • Various other tasks as required.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and annual respirator fit testing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 years experience in maintenance and/or operation of a natural gas plant
  • Two year associates degree or equivalent on the job training in specific skill area.
  • Experience working in a team environment, self-starter, and ability to work with peers in collaborative efforts
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well with peers and other crafts
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least a minimum of 50lbs.
